SHILLONG: A court case has hit the appointment of staff nurses in hospitals, PHCs and CHCs in the State.
The nurses in district hospitals (94), community health centres (57) and primary health centres (122) were appointed by the government on officiating basis.
Opposition Leader Donkupar Roy raised the matter in the Assembly on Thursday, but Speaker A.T Mondal was of the view that since the issue is pending before the High Court, rules do not allow any member to raise the matter in the Assembly.     However, Roy insisted that the gist of the case should be made known to all and that it does not come into conflict with the Court.
In reply, Health Minister Roshan Warjri said the pending writ petition was filed by Merlinda Kharlyngdoh and four others against the government.
Sources said an interim order was passed on July 7, 2016, by the Court stating that the government should not take any steps to publish fresh advertisement.
