Police caution buyers of second hand articles

SHILLONG: With more thieves who are drug addicts selling stolen properties, police have cautioned the people not to buy the second hand articles.
In a statement to the media on Saturday, the City (SP) Vivek Syiem said that there has been a rise in car tape/woofer and mobile theft for which several cases have been registered in several police stations in the city.
“In a majority of cases, it has been found that the accused are usually drug users. Buying such stolen property for a cheaper price from such persons will only encourage them in their drug consumption”, the statement said.
Police also said that persons who make such purchases are liable to be arrested as receivers of stolen property under Section 411 IPC whose punishment may extend to three years.
“Hence, in these circumstances, it is advised that public should be cautious while buying such second hand articles”, the statement added.
