SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has expressed concern over the future of students in the State following frequent agitations launched by teachers.
The pressure group has urged the Government to fulfil the teachers’ demand if the chief minister is serious about making the State a ‘centre of education’.
Teachers under the banner of Meghalaya SSA School Teachers’ Association (MSSASA) and 4th Teachers Committee have given the government time till March 31 to resolve the salary disparity between 4th teachers and SSA teachers or they will launch an agitation in April.
The 4th teachers earn Rs 6,000 per month and the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teachers in Upper Primary (UP) section get Rs 9,900. SSA was implemented in the State in 2005 and 4th teachers were appointed in Upper Primary SSA School by the School Managing Committee.
However, things took a different turn with the categorisation of the 4th teachers. The protests have been going on for months now and there are frequent strikes as the Government is dilly-dallying on solving the issue.
