SHILLONG: The school teacher accused of sodomising a minor boy has refuted the allegations as baseless asserting that the headmistress filed the complaint against him as he had previously filed a complaint against the school for their ‘illegal’ activities.
In a press communiqué, the accused, Banphanbok Sawian, teacher of Lawmei Secondary School said that the headmistress of the school filed a complaint against him because he and the father of a student had complaint against the school for illegally registering students of class VIII, 2015 and children of farmers in class IX to enhance their enrolment of the Secondary School to 50 to opt for the Asian Development Bank Scheme.
“There has to be 50 students in the Secondary level to enjoy the benefits of the scheme,” Sawian added.
The Directorate of School Education & Literacy (DSEO) inspected the school and found the allegations of conducting illegal activities to be true.
The DSEO informed that it acted upon Sawian’s complaint, in this connection, the headmistress informed that the accused teacher was angry over his termination, asserted that the managing committee removed him for sexually assaulting a minor boy.
Sawian added that as per the termination letter dated 29/12/2016, the reason for his termination is not registering his name at the D.I. office and the inability of the Dorbar Shnong to pay his salary.
The teacher maintained that he did not commit any crime.
It was learnt that Sawian allegedly assaulted sixteen year old boy sexually at the school residential quarters and at Polo ground, from March to September last year.
