Bangla cattle smugglers held in SWGH

SHILLONG: BSF troops deployed in Lukaichar in South West Garo Hills have apprehended two cattle smugglers.
The duo, identified as 24-year-old Abdul Karim and 20-year-old Hamidul Islam of Jamalpur district in Bangladesh, works as carriers and earns Rs 1,500 for a pair of cattle, a BSF press communiqué said.
The smugglers attacked the BSF troops with stones and in retaliation the jawans lobbed a stun grenade at them.
The two arrested men later told the jawans that they brought the consignment from Filbat Sangma and Bablu Sheikh of South West Garo Hills and were supposed to hand them over to Ashab Ali and Md N.H Ali of jamalpur district.
In similar incidents, BSF jawans deployed in Tuka (East Khasi Hills), Gumaghat (South West Khasi Hills) and Gopinathkila (South West Garo Hills) seized 24 animals worth Rs 1.8 lakh from smugglers.
The BSF has seized 260 cattle and contraband items worth more than Rs. 47 lakh in the last week.
In a separate incident, BSF personnel at Barsora in South West Garo Hills apprehended a Bangladeshi national, identified as Rasid Ali, while he was trying to infiltrate. He was later handed over to Border Guard Bangladesh.
