SHILLONG: The State Government has instituted a two-member inquiry committee to examine the grievances and alleged irregularities as highlighted by the Don Bosco College Teachers Association, Tura, on closing of Bengali and BBA departments in the college, continuation of the principal in office after retirement, exorbitant admission fees and alleged harassment of the teaching staff.
The matter was raised by Independent MLA John Leslee Sangma during the question hour in the Assembly on Tuesday.
Sangma wanted to know about the steps being taken by the government to address the problems of the teachers’ association. Members of the association had met the Education Minister at Resubelpara on January 25 and submitted a memorandum in this regard.
In reply, Higher and Technical Education Minister Roshan Warjri said the memorandum of the association was under examination.
Warjri said letters were sent to the college authorities, including the governing body, for their response on the grievances of the teachers. Reply on the extension granted to the principal was also sought. Besides, the inquiry committee constituted on March 3 will examine all the aspects, she said.
The committee comprising the additional director and the deputy director of higher and technical education will have to submit the report within 30 days.
