East Jaintia Hills Inter school athletic meet concludes
Shillong: The three-day Inter school athletic meet of DSO East Jaintia Hills concluded on Thursday. Ieng Swer Memorial school bagged the best team award in the under-14 boys category, while in the girls category Khliehriat Presbyterian Higher Secondary school won the award. In the under -16 category, Khliehriat Presbyterian Higher Secondary school bagged first prize in both male and female category. Meanwhile, in the above 16 category, Sein Jait Tuber Higher Secondary School (boys) and Khliehriat Higher Secondary School (girls) emerged winners. Best discipline team went to Sein Jait Tuber Secondary School.
Junior National football tournament selection trials
Shillong: The Meghalaya Football Association invites players born from 01.01.1999 to 31.12.2000 to attend the trials cum selection for the State Junior Team to participate in the AIFF Junior National Football Tournament. Interested players are to report along with their birth certificates on March 27 at 8:00am at Ground No III.
I-League: Mumbai FC sign Barreras as head coach
Mumbai: Mumbai FC have appointed Spaniard Oscar Bruzon as the Head Coach for the remainder of the I-League 2016-17 season. Bruzon’s appointment comes after the side parted ways with earlier coach Santosh Kashyap. Born in Vigo, Spain, 39-year-old Bruzon, an UEFA `A’ level pro license holder, comes with a lot of coaching experience at the highest level. Before accepting the Mumbai FC job, he was acting as an assistant manager to Fernando Vazquez at RCD Mallorca in Spain’s Segunda (Second) Division, a release isssued by the club said. The Spaniard has previous experience of working in India and in the I-League. He helped Sporting Club de Goa to 6th and 5th place finishes in 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, respectively, and in the Federation Cup where Sporting reached the final in 2013-14. (PTI)
Federation Cup to be held in Odisha from May 7-21
New Delhi: The Federation Cup, Indian football’s premier knock-out club competition, will be held in Cuttack from May 7 to May 21, and the event will feature the top eight teams from the I-League. “The Hero Federation Cup will be played in Cuttack, Odisha. It will kick off on May 7 with the final slated for May 21, 2017. The top 8 placed teams from the Hero I-League 2016-17 standings will be playing for top honours,” the All India Football Federation (AIFF) said in a statement following its executive committee meeting here on Thursday. Aiming to take Indian football forward, AIFF president Praful Patel said hosting the FIFA U-17 World Cup is a “huge responsibility” on their shoulders. RPS bring in Imran Tahir for Mitchell Marsh
New Delhi: Rising Pune SuperGiants on Thursday called South Africa spinner Imran Tahir as replacement for injured Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh ahead of IPL-10. Marsh had been ruled out of the ongoing Test series between India and Australia owing to a shoulder injury, prompting the franchise to bring in the South African leg-spinner. “Australia and Rising Pune SuperGiants all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was ruled out of the 10th edition of the VIVO IPL owing to a shoulder injury. As Marsh’s replacement, the franchise have roped in South Africa leg-spinner Imran Tahir into the squad,” the BCCI said in a statement. Tahir went unsold in the 2017 VIVO IPL Player Auction earlier this year. As per the player regulations, RPS is allowed a replacement player from the RAPP (Registered Available Player Pool) list, and Tahir was in that list. Tahir had earlier represented Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2016. (PTI)
