Cops lay down guidelines for city hotels

SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills Police have laid down the guidelines for the owners and management representatives of city-based hotels, lodges and guest houses.
The police, in a meeting on March 24, have directed the 112 members from city hotels and guest houses to follow the rules to check flesh trade and ensure ‘Safe Secure Shillong’.
According to the guidelines, hotels and guest houses should install CCTV cameras with proper resolution and strictly maintain records of all customers and should insist on identity cards.
Hoteliers should also furnish records of customers to the nearest police station or beat house or outpost daily and submit bio-data of employees to the police.
Hotel and guest house management should actively monitor happenings to ensure that no prostitution takes place.
The police also discussed legal consequences.
The discourse on the safeguards was delivered by Inspector M.N Khan, Officer in charge of Laitumkhrah police station.
East Khasi Hills SP Davis N.R Marak also emphasised on the significant role of hotels to make the city earn a good name and thanked the hoteliers for their keenness on partnering with police to make the city safe.
The meeting was chaired by SP (City) Vivek Syiem.
