Guwahati: While supporting citizenship to those Hindu migrants who have taken shelter in India after facing persecution in other countries, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on Monday favoured measures to prevent such migration in future.
“Hindus are not foreigners in Hindustan. They integrate with the society. Persecuted Hindus have come here even from Uganda. They have come not only to Assam, but to other states as well. But it is up to the Central government to settle them. We are not saying they should be settled in Assam,” newly elected Assam region (khetra) secretary of RSS Umesh Chakravartty said at a press conference here.
He, however, clarified that the RSS is not making an open appeal to the entire Hindu section in Bangladesh to migrate to India.
“In fact, we want the Central government to take up the issue of security of Hindus in that country with the Bangladesh government so that there is no more persecution and Hindus are not forced to migrate. Such a situation should not arise in any country and the Indian government should do the needful,” he said.
He maintained that the present situation has been caused by the Partition as the country was divided along religious lines.
Condemning the Silapathar violence in which an AASU office was vandalised, the RSS leader said the incident was part of a conspiracy to vitiate the atmosphere.
“We feel the Silapathar incident could be a conspiracy to vitiate the good atmosphere which was building up after the formation of this government. Police should act against the culprits and punish all those involved,” he said, rubbishing reports that alleged mastermind of the incident Subodh Biswas had links with some RSS leaders. (UNI)
