SHILLONG: The Dobu and Nengkhra regional unit of the Garo Students’ Union and the FKJGP Dobu circle, in a statement, clarified that they have nothing to do with the complaint lodged with Chief Secretary K.S Kropha against the plying of overloaded coal trucks on NH-62.
Bekington Momin, president of GSU’s Dobu unit, said, “Our organisation’s name has been dragged into the controversy without our consent by Rikchi Sangma and Togan Sangma, president and secretary of NH-62 Save Mission Committee.”
He further said the NH-62 Save Mission Committee is more concerned about overloading trucks than raising vital issues like upgradation of NH-62.
The NH-62 Save Mission Committee, a Garo Hills-based social organisation, recently complained to Kropha and the National Green Tribunal chairman about the Transport Department alleging that it collected Rs 7,000 from each overloaded truck but did not offload the excess coal.
