SHILLONG: The State government will file an affidavit before the High Court on or before April 12 seeking more time to complete the entire process of separation of executive from judiciary in Meghalaya.
The case will come up for hearing on April 12 in the High Court.
Separation took place in seven of the 11 districts of the State.
Supreme Court lawyer and state counsel Ranjan Mukherjee said over phone on Wednesday that by April 30 this year, the separation should be completed as per the order of the Apex Court on May 4, 2016.
The Apex Court also wanted the High Court to take up the matter and it was followed up. ) “We had apprised the Supreme Court in the past that substantial progress has been made regarding the separation of judiciary from executive in Meghalaya,” Mukherjee said.
He said the State government will move the application seeking appropriate extension of time as complete separation from executive is a huge exercise.
The State government had informed the court in the past about the appointment of officers and hiring of buildings for the smooth functioning of justice delivery system.
