Athletic meet begins in Ri Bhoi

Nongpoh: The District Inter School Chief Minister Athletic meet was kicked-off at the NSCA Mini Stadium, Pahamsyiem on Tuesday. Around 27 schools participated in the event organised by the office of the District Sports Officer, Ri Bhoi district. Various disciplines 100 metre race, high jump, long jump, javelin throw, discuss throw short put were played on the inaugural day. Impressed by the enthusiast participation of students from different schools of the district, chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Ri Bhoi, CP Gotmare said, ‘this is a great platform for the students to showcase their talents which will enable them to represent the district, the state and the country as whole”.
Subroto Mukherjee Cup football tournament

Nongstoin: District Sports Officer West Khasi Hills district, Nongstoin informed that the department is conducting the West Khasi Hills District Level Inter-School Subroto Mukherjee Cup football tournament for sub-junior boys under-14 and junior boys & girls under-17 at Nongstoin from May 17 onward. The officer also informed that, the entry must be sent on the prescribed form which is available at the office during office hours. Last date for submission of forms is May 10 while entries received after the closing date will not be accepted. 16 players will be allowed to register for entry before the Age Screening Committee. Each athlete must be a bonafide student of the school concerned. Must obtain 75% attendance in the academic year till the date of submission of entry and proof of date of birth to be enclosed along with the registration form. Players are asked to produce their original birth certificate during the age screening test to be held on May 15 at Indoor Stadium, Nongstoin from 10 am.
Inter school cricket tourney

SHILLONG: ST. Nanak Secondary School won the first match by 133 runs in the Inter School Cricket tournament played against Ruprekha Parishad Secondary School on Tuesday. St. Nanak won the toss and elected to bat managed scored 182 runs for 9 wickets in 25 overs. In reply Ruprekha was able to make only 49 runs all out in 12.2 overs. The second match was played between KV Happy Valley and Gandhi Buniyadi Secondary School. Electing to bat, KV managed to score 102 runs all out in 23.3 overs and in reply Gandhi Buniyadi made only 45 runs all out in 12.5 over’s. KV won the match by 57 runs.
Nongkseh win cricket tourney

SHILLONG: Nongkseh United won the 1st Uplifter Open Knock-out Cricket tournament by defeating Willdrich in the final match played at Madan Nongthymmai on Tuesday. On Tuesday, Willdrich won the toss and chose to bat managed to score 68 runs and lost 7 wickets in their 12 allotted overs. Robestar Khyriem made 21 runs while Bush Tohti and Nafeez Siddique took 2 wickets each. Chasing the target, Nongkseh United achieved the target easily by losing 2 wickets. Krishna Thapa scored 35 runs not out and helped his team to win the match by 7 wickets. The champion team walked away with a cash prize of Rs 15,000 while the runners-up got Rs 8000. Altogether 24 teams participated in the tournament organised by Uplifter Alternative after a gap of 8 years, the organizers said in a release issued here. The organisation also plans to resume the Tennis Ball League in the month of October, the release added.
