SP among eight police personnel injured in stone pelting Jamui

Apr 15 (UNI) Jamui`s Police Superintendent and seven other policemen were injured when an irate mob blocked a road and pelted stones on them near Nariyana bridge under Khaira police station in the district last night.
Police said here that the mob, infuriated over injuries to four people after their vehicle hit a traffic barrier on Nariyana bridge last night, blocked Khaira-Sona road demanding removal of the barrier. When the police reached the spot to lift the blockade, the mob started pelting stones on them leaving Jamui Police Superintendent Jayant Kant and seven other police personnel injured.
Besides the SP, officer-in-charge of Khaira police station Srikant Kumar, Assistant Police Sub Inspector Vikram Choudhary and five other police personnel sustained minor injuries in the stone pelting. The injured had been admitted to Primary Health Centre at Khaira and Jamui Sadar Hospital.
Later, the irate people were chased away from the spot by a large contingent of police.
The district authorities had banned movement of heavy vehicles on the bridge since yesterday following damage to one of the pillars of the bridge. The authorities had also put traffic barriers on both sides of the bridge. UNI
