The problem which occurred at around 8.30 AM, caused inconvenience to peak hour commuters heading towards various destinations after enjoying festivals, including Vishu and Easter.
“Signal failure at Ernakulam Junction occurred after an empty rake rolled down towards the north direction, resulting in signal failure,” a Southern Railway spokesman said.
He said normal traffic was restored by 11.35 AM at Ernakulam Junction.
Office-goers, including IT professionals, government and bank employees were the most inconvenienced as the trains from south and northern parts of Kerala towards Kochi city were unable to ply for three hours.
