TURA: Easter Sunday this year was a solemn affair as attacks on Christian community across the world were highlighted on the occasion.
Bishop Andrew Marak, bishop of Tura, said, “These are challenging times for our faith. The only way we can withstand such onslaught is by reaffirming our faith in Jesus Christ.”
In his homily on Easter Sunday at Sacred Heart Church here, the bishop spoke about attacks on Christians in Egypt on Palm Sunday. He also pointed out the Centre’s decision to hold Good Governance Day and Digital India Day on two religious occasions.
Bishop Andrew narrated the story of one of the victims of the Coptic Church attack, a mother who lost her children in the attack perpetrated by the ISIS.
“This mother wrote an open letter to those terrorists who took away her loved ones. She said, “I forgive you even though I know I will not get my sons back. But you will not be able to shake off the faith in me.”
Christians across the country have been expressing concern over recent incidents allegedly aimed at targeting the church and the clergy. Tura Baptist Church was packed to the rafters for the sunrise service despite the early morning thunderstorm.
Reverend Wetterfield R. Marak led the devotees in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ.
