SHILLONG: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Sohra has imposed Section 144 prohibiting dumping of quarry wastes near and movement of heavy vehicles carrying more than 9 MT on the road between Bholaganj and Nongjri for two months due to blacktopping and metalling work and construction of a bridge on the local river. The repair project and the 169.3m bridge on the Wahrew river at Tharia are funded under NLPCR.
The order was necessitated following the information received from the General Manager for P&R Infraproject Ltd. Tharia Bridge that quarry owners operating near the project site are dumping wastes into the drain excavated for free flow of water causing waterlogging. This is damaging the pavement.
