28 FIRs against 255 trucks violating NGT order

SHILLONG: Ri Bhoi police has filed as many as 28 FIRs against 255 coal-laden trucks which were detained in the last two days for violating the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order on the load limit.
Ri Bhoi SP Ramesh Singh said the FIRs were filed against trucks carrying coal beyond the permissible limit, which was in violation of the NGT rule as well as District Magistrate Prohibitory Order.
The police said between 9 pm on April 23 and 7 am on April 24, seven trucks which had police notices pasted on them for violating the District Magistrate Prohibitory Order, were detained at the weighbridge at 13th Mile in Byrnihat.
Earlier, more than 200 trucks plying on NH-6 were apprehended on Sunday.
The raid was conducted after the police received several complaints of trucks illegally transporting coal and avoiding the integrated check gate at 13th Mile in Byrnihat.
