Guwahati: The central government has promised 100 per cent support to Government of Assam’s skill development mission initiatives and evinced interest to set up an international skill centre in the state.
It was conveyed by the Union Minister of State (Ind) Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) Rajiv Pratap Rudy to Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal who met him in New Delhi on Monday, says a communique issued by Assam CM’s office here.
The Union minister said the MSDE under Prime Minister’s Kaushal Vikas Yojana would extend Central support in opening up of small centres for skill development.
The NSDC team will assist Assam in developing the project. In this context, the minister suggested for signing of MoU in which there can be provision for imparting other skills in these centres.
Assam government has conveyed that it is ready to hand over 10 buildings to the Skill Development Ministry for converting them into state-of-the-art skill development centres.
On drivers’ training centres in Assam, the senior Assam government officials apprised the Union minister that a 10-acre land parcel on lease will be provided for these centres and land of Assam State Transport Corporation for skill centres all over the State.
A MoU will be signed between the State and the Centre for jointly operating these centres by NSDC and MSDE.
Rudy said that his ministry was interested to set up an International Skill Centre in the State and asked the State Government to allot a suitable land in and around Guwahati for the purpose.
Rudy urged Sonowal to take up initiatives in right earnest for setting up of multi-skill development centres in each of the block across Assam.
Rudy expressed his ministry’s desire to set up training centres in tribal areas where the educated girls would be provided job-linked training, including taking care of the aged and elderly and asked the State Government to submit a proposal.
Sonowal assured Rudy that the State government would prepare a comprehensive roadmap and submit the same at the earliest.
The minister informed that his ministry is going ahead with full steam in setting up of a Model ITI in Rangapara in Sonitpur district.
Rudy said his Ministry is keen to organize skill exhibition in four-five locations in Assam and would tie up with partners National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) in Guwahati for successfully organising the event.
Sonowal also urged the Union Minister to impart skills to youth with minimum education for their recruitment in the Indian Army, CRPF and major organisations like the Railways.
The Union Minister while appreciating the idea said that the Ministry would work on it in broad consultations with the major service providers to ease out the unemployment problem. Following this suggestion,
Rudy said that his ministry in association with the World Bank technical team, NTPS and Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship in Guwahati would organize a series of enhancement building capacity programmes to create a pool of qualified contractors capable of taking up major projects in Assam.
