State arm wrestling c’ship held

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Arm Wrestling Association (MAWA) organised the 28th Annual State Arm Wrestling Championship on April 22 at Umsning Community Hall, a release said. Angel M Umlong won the title Over The Top by defeating last year’s champion Margaret Pathaw who has been holding the title for many years and in the men’s category Alan S Marbaniang won the title for the eleventh time. The organizers also informed that those who won first and second in different categories at the tournament will represent the State in the 41st National Arm Wrestling Championship to be held in Delhi from May 18 to 21. The tournament was organised in collaboration with the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs and hosted by Ri Bhoi district Arm Wrestling Association (RBDAWA). The organisers aims at promoting the sport and decided that henceforth they will try to host the event at different districts.
