SHILLONG: The Umsning circle of the United Democratic Party (UDP) has decided to support rebel MDC from the constituency Donkupar Sumer and called for a review of the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) decision on supporting the coalition in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
In a letter to UDP president Donkupar Roy, Bias Sylliang, the party’s secretary in Umsning, said the circle executive meeting on April 21 decided to support Sumer. The letter said the allegations of embezzlement against the KHADC executive committee are not clear.
Sumer and three other MDCs recently extended support to the People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) coalition led by KHADC CEM P.N Syiem despite UDP deciding to withdraw support on April 17.
The Umsning circle has urged the UDP central body to review the decision and requested the party to appoint a spokesperson for uniform information.
Meanwhile, Sumer has been appointed as the president of UDP Umsning circle. The decision was taken by the circle executive committee meeting on April 21.
Others who were elected are Jop Shabong as working president, Shanbor Ranee as vice president, Emri Kurbah as joint secretary and Dewing Khymdeit as working president of the youth wing.
