SHILLONG/mawkyrwat: An 18-year-old boy has been abducted from Nongjri village in South West Khasi Hills by suspected inter-border gangs late on Thursday evening.
South West Khasi Hills SP Herbert G. Lyngdoh said a group of six miscreants, whom police suspect to be Bangladesh nationals, abducted Dajied Syiemlieh, who worked as a second man in running earthmovers, around 8pm on Thursday.
Syiemlieh is from a village near Mairang in West Khasi Hills and worked under Kynsai Dkhar, a coal trader from Jaintia Hills.
The SP said the gang was possibly looking for the owner and when the miscreants could not find him, they abducted one of the employees for ransom.
The BSF has been asked to remain vigil, said the SP.
The miscreants looted one SBBL gun and two mobile phones from Dkhar’s office. Later, police recovered one 7.65 mm empty case from the crime site, the SP said and added that rescue operations have started.
