Ri Bhoi DC seeks report on seized coal

SHILLONG: The deputy commissioner of Ri Bhoi has sought a report from the Transport Department on the total quantity of coal seized during the crackdown on truckers violating the National Green Tribunal’s load limit directive.
As many as 300 trucks have been detained in the district so far for carrying coal above 9MT, the permissible limit under the Tribunal guidelines.
DC C.P Gotmare said he, along with the SP and the Transport Department, has launched a drive to stop illegal coal transport.
On Wednesday, police detained two trucks (ML-05L-1883 and ML-04B-9596) at Sohbhala Umsning, Ri Bhoi.
On the same say, a team of magistrate and police in east Jaintia Hills seized coal at Khliehriat Bazar and detained two trucks (ML-04B-4932 and ML-04A-5194).
On the same evening, EAC, East Jaintia Hills district, G.M Kharmih and a team of Police conducted checking at Khliehriat Bazar and detained one more truck (ML-04A-6838) violating the directive.
