Bodies of two missing persons found in Aizawl
Aizawl: The bodies of two persons, who were missing after they went fishing in the river Tuipui near Mizoram-Myanmar border were found near Sailulak village on Tuesday, village council leaders said. The village council leaders said that F Lalthlanpuia and Vanlalnghaka, hailed from Sailulak village. They went to the river Tuipui for fishing yesterday and went missing. Volunteers from Sailulak village undertook a massive search operation after they failed to return to the village last night and their bodies were found today. “It looked like one of them drowned and the other also drowned while trying to save the former,” a village council leader said. Tripura increases marriage aid for differently abled persons
Agartala: The Tripura government on Tuesday increased to Rs 50,000 the financial assistance given to differently abled persons at the time of their marriage, a minister said. A meeting of the Council of Ministers, presided over by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, decided to increase the assistance from the present Rs 6,000, Information and Finance Minister Bhanulal Saha told reporters here.The assistance has been increased for the first time since 1986. According to the 2011 Census, around 70,000 physically challenged people live in Tripura, compared with the earlier 57,000. Tripura Pratibandhi Awdhikar Manch state Secretary Salil Debbarma thanked the state government and urged both the central and state governments to fulfil the other long-pending demands of the physically challenged people. Oil tanker drivers begin strike in Manipur
Imphal: Oil tanker drivers on Monday launched a cease work strike in Manipur following an armed attack that injured two drivers. The drivers said that the strike will continue till their demands are conceded.The main demand is that they should be given adequate security along the highways which are infested by all kinds of militants. Sunday’s attack was the second since the BJP-led government took office on March 15.According to the police, CRPF personnel were escorting the goods trucks and oil tankers enroute from Assam to Imphal, the state capital. Militants attacked three oil tankers at Changoubung in Kangpokpi district. The attack damaged the tankers. Director General of Police L.M. Khaute said: “We have arrested three Kuki Revolutionary Army rebels in connection with the attack.” However, another militant outfit People’s War Group in a statement said: “We had carried out the gun attacks. The claim of the DGP is baseless”. (IANS)
Expedition to Mt Gorichen flagged off
Itanagar: An expedition to Mount Gorichen was flagged off on Tuesday at the Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) campus at Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh.The 24-member expedition team to be led by NIMAS Director Colonel Sarfraz Singh would attempt summiting the 21,410 feet high mountain comprising of five peaks in about 22 days from tomorrow, an official communiqué said. Mount Gorichen in Arunachal Pradesh is the third highest peak in the north east. The pre-monsoon expedition has been planned to foster the spirit of adventurism among the locals. Besides the NIMAS personnel, a total of eight local young people, including two women are part of the expedition team, the communiqué added. (PTI)
