Speaking to reporters, SP (Traffic) N.K Syiem said while the number of drunk driving cases has reduced in the city but 90 per cent of all traffic offences are from here. He further added that as there is a significant increase in the number of people driving through the one-way route after cops moved away at night, the Shillong Traffic Police would now deploy its men in such routes at night time to ensure that no one breaks the law.
Masks distributed
Meanwhile, a driving institute of the city, Haark’s Driving School, Jaiaw on Wednesday donated 500 masks  for traffic personnel. Wanpynhunlang Nongrum and Evalarisha Shabong, who run the school, said they distributed the masks since traffic personnel are discharging their duties in the most difficult conditions on the roads where they have to inhale harmful pollutants from vehicular emission.
