SHILLONG: The anomalies in the distribution of rice under National Food Security Act (NFSA) came to the fore as a case of overcharging by a dealer was reported in a village under Sohiong, East Khasi Hills.
According to the affected woman, Fatima Kharsamaw, the dealer of Kynroh Nonglyer (A) under Sohiong wanted additional charge as transportation cost from the villagers which she had objected.
Fatima said that the dealer wanted to realise up to Rs 5 per kg from AAY beneficiaries, who avail 35 kg rice at the rate of Rs 3 per kg.
There were complaints from many villagers regarding the matter, and Fatima who took up their cause, apprised the village authorities. She also wanted the district administration to order an inquiry as the village secretary is the husband of the dealer.
