TURA: A Garo social organisation has criticised the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) for not complying with the court order on payment of salaries to employees. The A’chik Youth Council (AYC) said in a statement that GHADC, which is currently under administrative rule, has not paid its employees for 10 months now.
“After the HC gave the order that two months’ pending salary would have to be given to the employees every month till all dues were cleared, both parties accepted the decision and the employees called off their agitation. However, even after 10 months it is only the employees who are complying with the order as no further payment has been made by the authorities,” the AYC statement read.
The organisation said, in this admission season after SSLC and HSSLC, those working at the Council will find it difficult to pay their children’s school and college fees.
Warning that it is even prepared to move the court against the authorities, AYC demanded that GHADC complies with the HC order and releases the salaries of the employees at the earliest. Quoting RTI findings, AYC revealed that the GHADC received revenue of Rs 49,52,85,354 in 2014-15, Rs 48,45,53,028 in 2015-16 and over Rs 3 lakh as motor vehicles tax in April 2017.
