Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday vowed to continue with the tirade against `benami’ property under any circumstances and at any cost so that the resources recovered could be utilized for the benefit of the poor.
Addressing the nation here on completion of third years in the office by the BJP-led government, Modi pledged to set up a `class less society’ in the country where people from all walks of life would be living with dignity and dignity of labour would be respected most.
Promising a ‘new India’ by 2022, Modi said he being a small man from a modest background would continue to strive for doing big things to the common people of the country surmounting all the hurdles.
“I have been humbled by the overwhelming support of the people to our government during the last three years in every trying circumstance. It has inspired me to dedicate myself totally in the service of this country and its people,” Modi said.
“Demonetisation was an extremely hard decision which was tried to be derailed by so many powerful lobbies. But the government has come through it unscathed only because of unstinted support of the people. It is unbelievable that 90 lakh people on their own have come forward to pay income tax. I am grateful to those one crore families who have given up LPG subsidy which has helped us to provide LPG connection to crores of BPL families. It is the people which are my team India. It is not possible to bringing about changes for better and inculcate work culture for any government without the support of masses,” Modi said adding that his government would continue to bank on technology to take the development to the door step of common people.
Lauding the people for their enthusiastic response to the Swaach Bharat Abhiyan, Modi said that now villages in the country were in competition with each other to get themselves declared as open defecation free at the earliest.
He announced Rs one lakh SAMPADA programme to revolutionise food processing sector in the country for the benefit of farmers and creation of jobs. He also announced that creamy layer bracket among the OBC has been raised to Rs 8 lakh per annum from Rs 6 lakh.
The prime minister on Friday also laid foundation of an AIIMS to be set up at Changsari near Guwahati and foundation of an Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI) at Gogamukh in Dhemaji district earlier in the day.
Given the immense potential of the all the eight states (asta lakhsmi) of the region , Modi on Friday redefined N-E (north east) as `New Economy’, `New Energy’, `New Empowerment’ , `New Engine’ for development of India He underlined five ways for the rapid development of the region – highways, railways, waterways, air ways and I-way (Information highway).
