SHILLONG: The HYC South West Khasi Hills has alleged that that PWD Minister M.M Danggo, who represents Ranikor, is taking political mileage out of an ADB-funded education project.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, HYC-SWKH vice president Bantei Wanniang alleged that the ADB project that was allotted to Nolikata Higher Secondary School in Ranikor’s Gumaghat, was given to Horrirai Syiemlieh Memorial Higher Secondary School of Photjuad Rangthong village in Mawkyrwat block.
HYC also quoted a letter by education official Ambrose Marak that said Nolikata School was replaced by Horrirai Syiemlieh School as per the request of the Ranikor MLA. Nolikata was approved along with Khonjoi School in Maheshkhola under phase-I of the project.
According to HYC, due to political influence, Nolikata was deprived of the project while works at Khonjoi have already started
HYC said though the pressure group met Government officials RV Suchiang, Sanjay Goyal and Ambrose Marak, who are associated with ADB, they were not aware of the matter. The pressure group said it will serve a two weeks’ deadline for the Government to retain the project at Nolikata failing which the volunteers will resort to agitation.
