SHILLONG: UDP MDC HS Shylla has flayed the pre-poll alliance between the UDP and the HSPDP terming it as a decision taken in haste.
Shylla, who had earlier announced that he is ready to make way for HSPDP legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit to contest from Nongkrem, alleged that UDP president Donkupar Roy has “surrendered himself” to the HSPDP president.
Stating that the decision of Roy will ruin UDP, Shylla said the UDP president should take the blame if any misunderstanding erupts within the party due to the alliance move.
The Nongkrem MDC claimed that Roy surreptitiously planned the regional parties’ coalition a long time back and the move has disheartened some UDP MLAs.
According to Shylla, the aim of the regional parties’ coalition is to usher in good governance.
He mooted the idea of soliciting views from NGOs, who, along with the regional parties, will be able to formulate better policies for the benefit of the people.
He said the regional parties’ coalition was not meant solely for the purpose of contesting election.
Meanwhile, the UDP-HSPDP Alliance in a release on Sunday expressed gratitude to all who supported the move.
Joint Secretary of the coordination committee of the alliance, Allantry Franklin Dkhar has urged people to lend support to the alliance
