“A ground search and rescue party reached the crash site on Sunday. The black box of the aircraft has been recovered. Further search is in progress,” Tezpur-based Defence PRO Lt Col Shombit Ghosh informed media.
The Sukhoi-30 with two pilots on board was on a routine training mission when it lost radio and radar contact with the Tezpur IAF base at about 11:10 AM, 40 minutes after its take-off last Tuesday, the wreckage was first sighted on Thursday morning by one of the several aircrafts that were pressed into service.
The search and rescue operation has been slow and painstaking owing to the rugged terrain with thick undergrowth.
One of the several search and rescue parties that had started trekking through difficult thickly forested mountainous terrain in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh reached the crash site early Sunday morning.
