Guwahati: The BJP-led government in Assam headed by chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal has decided to set up a regional cultural hub near Bhupen Hazarika Bridge over the river Brahmaputra which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 26 last and named it after the colossal musician and singer.
Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday announced that it would build a Samanway Kshetra near the new Bhupen Hazarika Bridge to commemorate the cultural icon’s lifetime efforts to promote universal brotherhood and global peace through his timeless music.
Sonowal said that the decision to set up a ‘Samanway Kshetra’ near Bhupen Hazarika Setu in Tinsukia district of eastern Assam was a meant to carry forward Bhupen Hazarika’s message of peace and harmony as well as to showcase the rich and unique culture of Assam and the rest of North-East in front of the rest of the world in one platform given that there would be an eternal flow of tourist to that picturesque part of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh across the bridge.
“The colossal musician and cultural ambassador from the region, Late Dr Bhupen Hazarika popularized the art & culture of Assam and North East in India and the world through his music. The profoundness of his thoughts and words strengthened the bond of amity amongst the people of North-East,” Sonowal said.
Sonowal stated that dedication of the longest river bridge connecting Dhola with Sadiya on May 26 by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the nation and naming the same after Bhupen Hazarika was a moment of immense pride for the people of Assam.
Terming the Bhupen Hazarika bridge as a ‘Bridge of Hope’, Sonowal mentioned that the state government’s decision to construct a ‘Samanway Kshetra near the bridge would be a boon to tourism in the state as the tourists visiting the Samanway Kshetra will be able know the art & culture of Assam as well as the North-East under one roof.
He hoped that the Samanway Kshetra would boost harmony amongst the people of North East.
