SHILLONG: Shillong Lajong FC and Malki SC faced off in a match for the U-18 Shillong Premier League in the city on Monday.
The first half of the game kicked off to a slow start as each team tried to out manoeuvre the other.
Malki suffered a red card in the 25thminute but managed to take the lead in the 31st minute after a goal was scored by P.K. Suting.
Lajong’s Donboklang nearly scored on several occasions with his blistering pace but Malki’s defense remained resolute.
The second half gained momentum and improved  for the Lajong players as they dominated the field. Malki worked hard on the counter but were not effective allowing Romen to score an equalizer for Lajong in the 52nd minute.
Samuel gave Lajong the lead a few minutes later after beating the keeper with a half volley shot towards goal.
After about an hour of play had passed, there was a collision between the Lajong goalkeeper and the rival team’s striker resulting in the latter being stretchered off the field.
Lajong continued to press but were unsuccessful in adding to the score ending the game 2-1 in their favour.
Lajong have now gathered two wins from two matches and will play their next match against Boys Sports Coy 58 GTC on Friday.
