SHILLONG: Former East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal will be examined in the special court trying the Rs 31-crore damage suit filed by the government against several NGOs for instigating agitations over ILP in 2013.
Sources said more witnesses are yet to be examined in the case. Former SP of East Khasi Hills, M. Kharkrang, has also been examined by the court.
The government constituted the special court after the State witnessed large-scale damages to public and private properties estimated to be over Rs 31 crore during the series of agitations called by pressure groups demanding implementation of ILP to check influx.
Petrol bombs were thrown into three shops in Police Bazar, Motphran and Bishnupur killing three persons. Altogether 86 cases were registered against as many as 13 pressure groups during the agitations that lasted for over four months.
Responding to a query, the official said the accused who were arrested in the murder of three persons have been granted bail long back. Also, one of the murder cases is in evidence stage while charges are being framed in another case.
