SHILLONG: A heavy vehicle was damaged at Industrial Estate near FCI Godown in Mawlai Nongmali on Wednesday allegedly in a petrol bomb attack.
Sources said miscreants must have thrown a petrol bomb at the vehicle, a borewell truck fitted with drilling rigs, when there was no one around.
The truck, which had a Tamil Nadu registration number (TN-45-AS-0599), belongs to Bonous Rattan, the owner of Madras Café.
The front portion of the vehicle was burnt in the incident. Fire and emergency services reached the spot an hour later.
SP City (Crime) Vivek Syiem said the incident is suspected to be connected to the recent violence that erupted in Ri Bhoi over the railway project from May 27.
The area falls under the jurisdiction of Pasteur Beat House. Syiem said no FIR was filed by the owner till evening. However, investigation is on to arrest the culprits.
The East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner has imposed Section 144 in the district from 6 pm to 5 am from Monday.
