Hundreds bid farewell to educationist in Ri Bhoi

NONGPOH: Hundreds of locals and senior political leaders paid tribute to Blessibon Blah, one of the pioneers of education in Ri Bhoi district, who was laid to rest on Sunday.
Blah died at her residence at Saiden village on June 9 after a prolonged illness. She was 87.
Senior leaders like D.D Lapang and Celestine Lyngdoh were present at the funeral.
Blah was born on October 24, 1930, and she did her schooling in Langkyrdem village.
Blah served as a teacher of Mathematics and Hindi for 55 years in different schools of Khasi-Jaintia Hills and she was also the co-founder of Alpha English Higher School in Nongpoh in 1982. She taught in the school till 2004 and retired the next year.
But she continued her work in the school.
Rang Pynshai Blah, the educationist’s elder son, said despite her services there was no recognition by the Government.
Blah’s body was buried in the cemetery located in her garden attached to the house at Saiden.
