Tsering laments shortage of blood in State

SHILLONG: Acting chief secretary Y. Tsering has lamented shortage of supply of blood to the meet the emergency needs due to the misconceptions of people about donating blood.
Speaking at the World Blood Donor Day at U Soso Tham Auditorium, here on Wednesday, Tsering, who is also the president of Meghalaya State Blood Transfusion Council, said that noble deed by a blood donor can save a life of someone in need of blood.
Tsering said that there is a need for a wider public awareness among the masses on the advantages of blood donation and also for a committed, year-round blood donation so as to maintain adequate supplies and self sufficiency of blood.   
He also felicitated the regular voluntary blood donors.     
The programme was organized by the Meghalaya State Blood Transfusion Council in collaboration with the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society and all the Licensed Blood Banks
The theme was “What can you do?” Give blood, Give now, Give often”.
A Voluntary Blood Donation camp was also organised at the premises of U Soso Tham Auditorium.
Earlier, Dr. R. Allya, Member Secretary, Meghalaya State Blood Transfusion Council, gave a power-point presentation on the ”Scenario of Blood Transfusion Services in Meghalaya”.
Mission Director, NHM, H. M. Shangpliang, DIG (Med), Frontier Headquarter, BSF, Shillong, Dr. A. C. Bhardwajan and Director of Health Services, Dr. R. O. Budnah were also present.
