New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Portugal and the Netherlands next week and try to give boost to the bilateral relations between India and these two countries, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced here on Friday.
The spokesman in the MEA, Gopal Baglay told reporters here that Mr Modi will reach Portugal capital Lisbon on June 24 and hold dialogues with his Portugese counterpart Antonio Costa, who had visited India earlier this year.
“We look forward to take the friendly ties forward,” he said adding the visit of Indian Prime Minister will be “action-filled and fruitful”.
After his engagement in Portugal, the Prime Minister will fly to the United States on June 25 and is scheduled to hold talks with President Donald Trump on a wide range of issues the next day on June 26. “This will be the first meetin
g between the two leaders (PM Modi and President Trump). Their discussions will provide a new direction for deeper bilateral engagement on issues of mutual interest and consolidation of multi-dimensional strategic partnership between India and the US,” the MEA spokesman said.
From the US, Mr Modi will go to the Netherlands on June 27 where he will interact with the Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte and also Dutch King Willem-Alexander. This year’s visit is significant as India and the Netherlands are completing 70 years of bilateral engagement in 2017. The economic sector partnership remains a core area of mutual cooperation between two sides, the MEA spokesman said. (UNI)
