SHILLONG: NPP national president and Tura MP Conrad Sangma is yet to decide whether to come back to state politics in view of the 2018 Assembly polls or to stay put in national politics.
In the last 2013 Assembly polls, NPP faced its worst ever defeat with the party getting only two legislators, James Sangma and Nihim Shira.
Later, the party improved its position in the GHADC polls forming the Executive Committee led by NPP which, however, was ousted on March 31 this year.
The party regained its position further with the landslide victory of Conrad in the by-election to Tura Lok Sabha seat.
Buoyed by the victory, the party is planning to go bigger in the 2018 Assembly polls.
However, the party supporters are yet to get any clear picture whether Conrad will lead the party in Meghalaya or some other leader will be projected.
While from the family, Conrad and James are active in politics, their sister and former Tura MP Agatha Sangma is unlikely to steer the party due to her ill health.
When contacted, Conrad said that it is too early to project anyone as the chief ministerial candidate for the 2018 polls.
According to Conrad, it is after all the elected MLAs who will decide their leader.
He, however, remained non committal to a question whether he would return to state politics.
