SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) has criticised Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu for his remark that there was no development in Meghalaya under Mukul Sangma as the chief minister.
In a statement on Sunday, MPYC president Richard Marak said that Khandu “seems to be forgetting his roots”.
“Khandu should remember that till September of 2016, he was an Indian National Congress MLA. He should also remember that the people of his constituency chose Pema Khandu, the INC candidate, and not Pema Khandu, the BJP candidate,” Marak said, adding that within three months, Khandu changed party loyalties twice, first to the People’s Party of Arunachal Pradesh in September 2016 and then to the BJP in December 2016.
“Isn’t it ironic that a leader of such unstable character should talk about the leadership qualities of others,” Marak said.
According to the MPYC chief, as far as development in Garo Hills is concerned, the people of Garo Hills are smart enough to know what the Congress-led MUA government under the leadership of Sangma has done for the region and the entire State.
Marak said the long-term aspirations of people are being fulfilled, with the creation of North Garo Hills district and Chokpot subdivision, among others.
He said people are aware of the ‘magic’ which BJP government has done by way of renaming 23 UPA schemes in the past three years making it look like BJP had done a lot of work.
He said there was nothing new and the Modi government spent more money on packaging and publicity.
According to Marak, the promises of Modi and the BJP to provide 2 lakh jobs every year and Rs 15 lakh in every account have not been fulfilled.
“There are no jobs for youths, no relief for farmers, OROP partially delivered, streets are not safe, borders simmering, J&K unsettled, a country where cows are safer than women and eating beef carries a more rigorous punishment than molesting or raping women, in other words, a laughing stock in the eyes of the world,” Marak said.
