TURA: An arms smuggler who had links with the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) and the ULFA-Independent (ULFA-I) was arrested in a village in Bajengdoba during an early morning raid by a joint team of North Garo Hills police and the army on Monday.
Police launched the search operation for Nangsen Ch Sangma (36), who is from Tatolgre village in Bajengdoba, after receiving intelligence reports.
The joint team also conducted a search operation in and around his village and recovered a huge cache of illegal weapons, ammunition and paraphernalia for making bombs.
Among the seized items were an AK assault rifle, two country-made pistols and three shotguns, mobile phones and a digital camera.
“He is suspected to be an over-ground worker of both ULFA and GNLA and was tasked with the job of concealing weapons,” said district police chief Dalton Marak.
