One dies due to electrocution on flooded Guwahati street

Guwahati: One person was electrocuted to death on a water-logged city lane in the heart of Guwahati city which was lashed by a heavy downpour in the early morning hours of Thursday throwing normal life out of gear.
Dulal Malakar, an employee of the KFC outlet on Zoo Road, was electrocuted to death while he was walking home doing night shift duty through water-logged Sugam lane at Zoo Road area after Thursday morning’s heavy showers.
He stumbled upon a snapped high voltage electric wire lying concealed on the water logged lane. The deceased is survived by his newly-married wife.
Agitated at the death, locals residents alleged that the person died on Thursday morning because of the negligent attitude of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) whose staff did not repair a snapped high voltage overhead electric wire properly in the area and the wire got snapped on Thursday morning after the heavy downpour .
Meanwhile, the Kamrup (metropolitan) district administration has announced Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased and ordered a judicial inquiry into the death.
The government has suspended two top officials of APDCL which has also granted Rs 2.5 lakh compensation against the death.
