SHILLONG: As many as three Union Ministers who were scheduled to visit Shillong in the last two days cancelled their trips at the last moment.
Minister of State (Home) Kiren Rijiju was to visit Meghalaya on June 23 to deliver a keynote address at a seminar ‘Unravelling the Political Economic & Security Influences in North East India and its impact on the nuance of Indo-Myanmar Border Management’ at the Assam Rifles centre.
However, the visit of the Union Minister was cancelled at the last moment.
Similarly, Union Minister of State for Finance Santosh Kumar Gangwar was also set to visit Shillong to participate in a seminar on GST on Friday but the programme had to be cancelled due to “sudden exigencies” for which the minister backed out at the last moment.
Even on Saturday, Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare was scheduled to attend the valedictory function of the two-day workshop on “Agriculture for Nutrition” at Indian Council for Agriculture in Umiam.
There too, the Union Minister failed to turn up.
BJP Meghalaya spokesperson Basu Chakraborty said that “the Ministers are overloaded” and changed their itinerary at the last moment.
