SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Transport Corporation Workers’ Union (MTCWU) strike has affected both tourists and locals.
Commuters are in a spot as both inter-state and district buses have stopped.
Many tourists were stranded as services like rail ticket booking at the MTC counter were closed owing to the week-long strike that started on June 27. Employers are demanding reinstatement of Managing Director A. Nikhla.
School bus service was stopped from June 29.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, general secretary of MTCWU K. Rumnong said, “The strike will continue since there is no response on the part of the government till date. All services are cancelled. Our demand is to revoke the transfer order of A. Nikhla, Managing Director of MTC.”
Chief Secretary Y. Tsering refused to disclose much on the matter even as he told reporters, “We have our own rules and we will see as every government is governed by certain rules and will go as per rules.”
