SHILLONG: The State Government will approach the Ministry of Civil Aviation to finalise the flights from Umroi Airport as part of the UDAN, a regional air connectivity scheme.
An official in the Transport Department said the picture would be clear after this month’s meeting.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has decided to connect all small towns and cities in the North East by this financial year and air fleet between Shillong and other cities of the region will be enhanced from August next.
Shillong Airport will be well-connected with the neighbouring northeastern cities by the end of the year under UDAN and the airport will be connected with Agartala, Aizawl, Dimapur, Imphal and Silchar.
Air Deccan has been selected as the first bidder to operate from Shillong Airport. Every flight will have 50 per cent low-cost seats of Rs 2,500 per seat under the central scheme.
