SHILLONG: UDP President Donkupar Roy on Friday indicated that the party would support Ram Nath Kovind in the presidential election as his address was “more appealing”.
The leader of the Opposition, who attended Kovind’s address on Friday along with other UDP leaders, said, “Personally, I will vote for Kovind, but the party’s decision will be arrived at after the meeting before July 17.”
The UDP delegation had also attended Meira Kumar’s address following which the UPA president nominee had said the opposition leader from Meghalaya supporting her was an example for others to emulate.
However, Roy later clarified that he went to the meeting to hear Kumar and not to vote for her.
On Friday, the former chief minister said he found Kovind’s address more appealing. “Kumar only spoke about philosophy and ideology whereas Kovind stressed on upholding the Constitution and respecting all sections of the people,” he added.
