Ruling Nagaland alliance to support Kovind in presidential poll

KOHIMA: The Naga People’s Front (NPF)-led ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) which has BJP as a constituent, has decided to extend support to the NDA’s candidate Ramnath Kovind in the forthcoming presidential election.

Ramnath Kovind, met the Nagaland legislators including those from the NPF t Dimapur on Friday following his arrival from Imphal by a special flight.

Kovind was received by Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu at Dimapur airport.  He addressed a meeting at the IMC hall in Dimapur where the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) extended unanimous support to NDA’s nominee Presidential election scheduled for July 17 next.
The meeting was chaired by DAN Chairman and Adviser to Chief Minister (Finance) T.R. Zeliang. Apart from NDA Presidential candidate, Ramnath Kovind, brief speeches were delivered by BJP national General Secretary Ram Madhab and NEDA Convener and Assam Finance Minister, Himanta Bishwa Sarma.

While extending support on behalf of the DAN, T.R. Zeliang pressed upon Kovind to remember the state of Nagaland when he becomes the President of India. “I urge you not to forget a small State called Nagaland when you become the President of this great Country,” he appealed.
Kovind was accompanied by Union Minister for Rural Development, Narendra Singh Tomar, BJP national general secretary, Ram Madhav, Lok Sabha MP, Rakesh Singh, Rajya Sabha MP, Ram Vichar Netam, NEDA Convener Himanta Bishwa Sarma and a host of ministers and dignitaries from various states. UNI
