Mawhati body says Dorphang not criminal

SHILLONG: The Mawhati Constituency Political Committee (MCPC) has criticised the Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO) and the Thma u Rangli (TUR) for their demand to remove Julius Dorphang from the House committees.
August Malai, publicity secretary of MCPC, told reporters that Dorphang was a member of the committee for a long time and “if the State Government had found him unsuitable to be part of the committees, it could have removed him back then”.
He went on saying that TUR and CSWO cannot call Dorphang a criminal since the case against him is pending in the court and their demand to remove him from the committee is part of their personal agenda.
“Till date the residents of Mawhati have faith in Dorphang who has brought many developmental projects to the village,” Malai said.
MCPC has urged the lower court that is trying his case relating to the rape of a minor girl on two occasions to speed up the trial as the “people of Mawhati are in a dilemma since there is no representative”.
