SHILLONG: A student of a city school has secured highest mark in English in this year’s SSLC examination conducted by MBoSE and was placed in the 20th position after she opted for re-evaluation of answer scripts.
Abigail James of St Mary’s Higher Secondary School, who appeared for the SSLC examination 2017 was in shock when she received the mark sheet as her marks in English, Social Studies and Additional English were below her expectation.
This prompted Abigail and her parents to seek re-evaluation of the answer scripts. After re-evaluation, the MBoSE corrected the discrepancies in the mark.
From the earlier mark of 86, the student secured 89 for English and 91 from the earlier mark of 87 for Social Studies.
Though re-evaluation of mark for Additional English was also sought, MBoSE did not cite any reason for not correcting the discrepancies, if any, for the subject.
The parents and the school authorities are happy over the fresh marks obtained after re-evaluation as they had expected better results from the student, who was the head girl of the class and a popular orator and debater.
Besides the new entrant Abigail, 89 was the highest mark for English shared by Bibek Bhattacharjee of Brookside Adventist Higher Secondary School, Shillong, and Pratiksha Seal, also from St Mary’s Higher Secondary School.
With the increase in marks, Abigail now shares 20th position with two more students.
