Human rights awareness in Nongpoh

NONGPOH: Every human being has the right to life, liberty, equality and dignity and any violation of this will invite punishment mandated by law, said Justice Aftab Hussain Saikia, chairperson of Meghalaya Human Rights Commission, on Wednesday.
Addressing a gathering at an awareness programme on ‘Human Right and Literacy’ at Ri Bhoi College here, Saikia said, “Human rights mean political rights, economic, social and cultural rights, besides civil rights. This commission is to promote the principle that every person is equal in dignity and rights.”
The programme was organised by Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) in collaboration with the office of the Ri Bhoi deputy commissioner.
Among other guests were Deputy Commissioner CP Gotmare and MHRC Secretary Aldous Mawlong. Students and teachers from local schools were In the audience.
