SHILLONG: Jugalis, with support from the youth wing members of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), will stage an indefinite protest in front of the gate of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) from Monday.
The KHNAM youth wing has been protesting against the power corporation’s delay in issuing appointment letters to 466 qualified jugalis, or linesmen. The merit list of the jugalis will lapse on August 2.
President of Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement youth wing Thomas Passah said jugalis from across the State are expected to converge at the place where they once staged a sit-in demonstration.
The appointments are said to be done in phases — 336 in Phase I and 233 each in phases II and III. Passah said appointments in the last two phases of jugalis are pending.
